Pilates, formerly known as Contrology, is a form of exercise that was developed in Germany by Joseph Pilates during the 20th century. It is a total body workout that is performed on either a mat on the floor, or on various pieces of Pilates equipment. If practiced on a regular basis, Pilates may improve physical strength, flexibility, endurance and breathing.
Pilates is a very low impact exercise that may be done by anyone at various fitness levels. However, if you have physical issues, we ask that you get clearance from your physician before beginning Pilates. Also, if you have X-rays, we ask that you bring them to your first session.
Joseph Pilates once said that with Pilates you notice a difference in 10 sessions, and in 20 sessions others will begin to notice a difference in you. However, some clients have expressed noticing a difference in their bodies after their first Pilates session.
